Rachel Woodall: North East

Regional Liaison Adviser for the North East region.

The region I cover

North east region

I’m the Communitybaptistpa’s Regional Liaison Adviser for the North East. This includes Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham, Darlington and Teesside.

My background

Rachel WoodallI trained and qualified as a solicitor in the North East, joining the Communitybaptistpa in January 2010, in the Fitness to Practise directorate in Manchester. I transferred to the role of Regional Liaison Adviser in September 2012, moving back to the North East.

I have always been interested in medical law and ethical decision making. I enjoy the analysis, problem solving and debate that complex medical situations bring, balanced against the often emotive human reality. I recognise how helpful good guidance can be in those situations and how important it is to quickly know where to look.

I am really pleased to cover this area and the views on my journeys while out and about are regularly stunning.

What I'd like to achieve

I’m looking forward to engaging with doctors, trainees and medical students on our ethical guidance and online learning materials, and to facilitating discussion and a better understanding of our standards. It’s also an important part of my role to explain to members of the public, what that guidance means for them.

Over the years I’ve developed a particular interest in the areas of consent, mental capacity, treatment decisions and end of life care. I’m lucky in this role to have interaction with those ‘on the ground’ delivering and receiving services. I get to see and hear from doctors about the realities and pressures they feel, as well as hearing patient experiences.

I’m keen to help create a better understanding of the role of the Communitybaptistpa and the various areas of work we do. I’m available to come and speak with groups of medical students, trainees, doctors and others about the work of the Communitybaptistpa, including professionalism, our standards and guidance, as well as revalidation. I look forward to hearing from you.
