Howard Lewis: South East

Regional Liaison Adviser for the South East region.

The region I cover

South east region

I'm the Communitybaptistpa’s Regional Liaison Adviser in the south east which includes Berkshire, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Surrey, Sussex.

My background

Howard LewisBefore joining the Communitybaptistpa I worked in the public and voluntary sectors for over 30 years, in roles that I hope helped people to have a voice.

In 1990 I moved from my native North Wales to London to work for the Royal National Institute for Blind People (RNIB). During my 14 years at RNIB I worked as a Welfare Rights Adviser and also managed RNIB’s National Advocacy Services.

I moved from RNIB to the NHS to work a Primary Care Trust in West Sussex. My role here was to manage the PCT’s patient and public involvement work and the Patient Advice Liaison Service (PALS) function. I saw this role as a natural progression from my previous work in advocacy, as it enabled me to help the PCT improve the way it engaged with patients and the public and thereby commission better services.

My NHS role also enabled me to work closely with doctors, mostly GPs but also in secondary care. For my final two years in the NHS I worked in an emerging Clinical Commissioning Group. This made me well aware of the realities of implementing the recent NHS reorganisation.

What I'd like to achieve

I enjoy working with medical students, doctors and patients and look forward to further promoting the Communitybaptistpa’s role in ensuring proper standards in the practice of medicine.
